Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Danilo Gallinari scored five of Denver’s seven points in the last 13 seconds to lift the Nuggets to a 112-105 victory over the skidding Los Angeles Lakers Sunday at Staples Center.
Gallinari sank a triple with 13 seconds remaining to push the Nuggets ahead by six, 108-102, after the Lakers closed in after a three-pointer by Kobe Bryant.
Bryant put the Lakers within striking distance anew with a three-pointer but the Nuggets answered with four foul shots from Andre Miller and Gallinari to secure their fifth victory in seven outings and hand Los Angeles its third straight defeat.
Ty Lawson scored 21 points with 10 dimes, Gallinari finished with 20 markers and JaVale McGee added 17 for the Nuggets, who improved to 20-16.
The Nuggets also got double-digit production from three other players, with Andre Iguodala scoring 15, Corey Brewer firing 14 and Miller contributing 12 points and 10 dimes off the bench.
“It’s a great win for us but I’m not going to get overinflated. I told the team before the game I don’t remember the last time we won in here in the regular season,” Denver coach George Karl said.
The Lakers lost despite getting double-digit output from six players as well, with Bryant leading the way with 29 points but he shot just 11-for-29 from the field.
Metta World Peace had 16, Dwight Howard scored 14 points and tied his career-high 26 boards, Pau Gasol added 11 while Steve Nash had 10 points and 13 dimes for the Lakers (15-18).
Jordan Hill scored 13 points and Jodie Meeks added eight for the Lakers, whose bench was outscored by the Nuggets’ reserves, 43-25.
The Nuggets played turnover-free ball in the opening 12 minutes to counter the Lakers’ outstanding 57.9 percent shooting from the field and grab a 34-26 lead at the start of the second.
However, the Lakers outscored the Nuggets in the second period, 34-26, to end the half in a 60-all standoff.
