Sigrid Maxine Reed, 90, of Frenchville died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.  She was born July 20, 1922, in Summerville, the daughter of Andrew and Jennie (Miller) Ecklund.

Mrs. Reed graduated from Penn Hills High School in 1940. In 1969, she started driving school bus for the Clearfield School District, retiring in 1985. She also volunteered with the Shaw Public Library Book Mobile in the Frenchville Area.

She was a member of the Congress Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a certified lay speaker, played the piano, taught Sunday school and held various offices.

Mrs. Reed was a member of the former Frenchville Grange, where she held various offices and was active in the Pomona Grange.

She is survived by six children, Gary Reed and David Reed and his wife, Sally, all of Frenchville; Edgar W. Reed Jr. and his wife, Charlene of Troutville; James Reed and his wife, Glenda, of Woodland; Dawn Sankey and her husband, Frank Jr. “Bud” of Goshen; and Dennis Reed of Bracey, VA; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Reed was the last member of her generation and preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar William Reed Sr. whom she married April 12, 1941 and who died Dec. 14, 1987; two brothers, David and Arthur Ecklund and three sisters, Ethel Fleming, Mildred Eddy and Clara Reichert.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday at the Congress Hill United Methodist Church, 9038 Gillingham Rd., Lecontes Mills, with Pastor Susan Arnold officiating. Burial will be in the Fruit Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., 312 East Locust St., Clearfield, and from 11 a.m. until the hour of the services Friday at the church.
