Triche, Southerland fuel Syracuse’s win over So. Florida

Tampa Bay, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Syracuse’s Brandon Triche had 20 points and James Southerland scored 17 in 55-44 win over South Florida Bulls.

C.J. Fair added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Orange (14-1, 2-0).

South Florida (9-4, 0-1) raced to a 10-point lead midway in the first half at 17-7 following a Jawanza Poland layup. Syracuse was able to grab the lead at 3:28 of the first half 24-23, after a layup by Triche.

The half ended with Syracuse leading 30-23.

The Bulls cut the lead to 30-27 early in the second half, but that was the closest they could get from there, as Syracuse’s 11-3 run capped by a Rakeem Christmas dunk padded the lead to 41-30.

South Florida trimmed the 11-point deficit to 47-42 with 6:24 remaining following a Poland three-pointer.

However the Bulls were held to one basket the rest of the way.

Southerland’s long 3-pointer put Syracuse up 50-42. Triche followed with a driving layup and a pair of free throws to push the lead back to double-digits.

Victor Rudd led USF with a double-double perfromance of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Jawanza Poland finished with 12 points.
