Brisbane, Australia (4E Sports) – Serena Williams opened the New Year on a right track as she demolished Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 6-1 in the finals of 2013 WTA Brisbane International Saturday.
Williams looks to continue her strong performance in 2012, winning her 47th career title heading into the 2013 Australian Open in Melbourne.
Williams, who won the Wimbledon Open, US Open and an Olympic Gold Medal to complete a career Golden Slam, simply overwhelmed her Russian foe with a bludgeoning game and overpowering skill set.
On the men’s side, Andy Murray took home his first crown at Brisbane International after Kei Nishikori withdrew while trailing the Briton 6-4, 2-0.
Murray entered the final preparation toward the Australian Open brimming with confidence, making him one of the favorites to bag the first Grand Slam of the year.
