Obituary Notice: Helen Jean Owens

Helen Jean Owens, 86, of Clearfield died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. She was born Jan. 11, 1926, the daughter of Dayton and Grace (Nebgen) Shifter.
Mrs. Owens was affiliated with the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield.
She was a graduate of the Clearfield St. Francis Catholic School. She was a former member of the Mount Joy Grange and the Lawrence Township Fire Company #5 Auxiliary.
She enjoyed being a homemaker, playing bingo, cooking and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Owens is survived by six children, Grace A. Swanson and her husband, Edwin of Curwensville; Gloria J. Aarness and her husband, Bruce of, Tomah, WI; and Frances L. Lawhead and her husband, Randall, Edith M. Starr and her husband, Kenneth, Richard W. Owens and Harold L. Owens, all of Clearfield; a daughter-in-law, Brenda G. (Lippart) Owens of Clearfield, 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren; a brother, Clyde Shifter and his wife, Eleanor of Clearfield; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George W. Owens, whom she married Jan. 17, 1948 and who died July 8, 2011; a son, Edward J.
Owens, who died August of 2009; three brothers, Gordon, Doryce and John Shifter; and four sisters, Geraldine Turner, Sylvia Green, Rosalie Koozer and Hazel Shifter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield, with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery.
Friends will be received from6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
