Ten pounds of marijuana found in child’s room in Virginia, suspect detained

Laurel Fork, VA, United States (4E) – A 40-year-old man has been arrested Wednesday after around ten pounds of marijuana were discovered in a child’s bedroom at his residence in Laurel Fork, Virginia.

According to Carroll County deputies, Eric James Brinegar was taken into custody after a search of his home located on Commanche Lane.

In a press release, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said officials arrived at the home to serve a felony warrant but they started a search after smelling marijuana.

Aside from finding the processed marijuana in the child’s room, deputies also found a small marijuana growing operation in an adjacent garage.

Grow lights and other materials, as well as a shotgun, a BMW SUV and $3,000 in cash, were also seized.

Brinegar has been charged with distribution of marijuana while in possession of a firearm, manufacturing marijuana and distribution of marijuana.

Officials added the suspect could face other charges as investigation continues.

Deputies said the social services was informed because of the quantity of marijuana found in the child’s room.
