New York, NY, United States (4E) – Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Tuesday appointed former Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta as U.N. envoy to Guinea-Bissau.
He will also head the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office (UNIOGBIS) in the coup-stricken region.
His appointment came as Rwandan diplomat Joseph Mutaboba is due to retire on January 31.
“Ramos-Horta, 63, brings with him more than three decades of a diplomatic and political career in the service of peace and stability in Timor-Leste and beyond,” a UN statement said.
