Denver, CO, United States (4E Sports) – Danilo Gallinari fired 17 points as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 92-78, to end their franchise-best 17-game winning run Tuesday at Pepsi Center.
The Nuggets also drew double-digit scoring from five other players, with Kenneth Faried tallying 14 points and 11 caroms, to clinch their eighth consecutive home win and improve to 18-15.
Andre Miller scored 12 points and issued 12 assists in place of starting playmaker Ty Lawson, who missed his first game of the season due to tightness in his left Achilles tendon.
Andre Iguodala also had 12 points on top of seven rebounds and eight dimes, JaVale McGee added 11 and Corey Brewer had 10 for the Nuggets.
Blake Griffin and Eric Bledsoe scored 12 points apiece for the Clippers, who missed 24 of 29 attempts from three-point range for a poor 17.2 percent clip.
Overall, the Clippers made just 30 of 78 shots from the field for 38.5 percent and went 13-for-29 from the foul line for 44.8 percent.
DeAndre Jordan had 11 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks while Chris Paul was limited to 10 points and six assists.
Reserve Jamal Crawford, who was instrumental in the Clippers’ amazing run, shot just 2–for-11 from the field to finish with nine markers.
Matt Barnes also finished with nine and Caron Butler had only seven after scoring 29 points in the Clippers’ 107-96 win over the Utah Jazz Dec. 30.
From a close 50-49 lead, the Nuggets launched a 15-6 run keyed by Gallinari’s six points to take a 65-55 advantage, with 2:16 left in the third period.
Bledsoe brought the Clippers within 65-58 with a three-pointer but McGee scored five of the Nuggets’ last nine points to take a 75-59 lead heading into the fourth period.
In the fourth, the Nuggets extended their led to 85-68 after a jumper by Brewer and were never threatened from there.
