Japan suspects norovirus outbreak in Yokohama hospital

Tokyo, Japan (4E) – The authorities in Japan suspect a norovirus outbreak at a hospital in Yokohama in southern Tokyo that killed four elderly people and infected several others.

The four patients died at Yokohama’s Denentoshi Hospital were suffering from pneumonia, diarrhea, vomiting and breathing problems since last week. They were aged between 80 and 97.

According to the hospital authorities, 27 staff members and 45 others have been infected of highly contagious norovirus since last Tuesday.

The virus, which usually erupts in winter, has already killed six people in Miyazaki province and two in Osaka so far this month. The infection is usually transmitted from person to person.
