Dunn, NC, United States (4E) – A 56-year-old man has been taken into custody for allegedly robbing and killing his former employer Sunday morning in Dunn, North Carolina.

According to officials, deputies arrived after receiving a home invasion report at 10:57 a.m. along Jernigan Road and discovered the body of 76 year-old Charles C. Stewart at the back of his home.

His wife, Sharon Stewart, was found wounded inside the home. She sustained multiple injuries and was brought to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital for treatment.

Sheriff Larry Rollins said James Robert Davis entered the home around 10:30 a.m., started beating Stewart and his wife, before stealing firearms, jewelry and cash.

Davis escaped using the couple’s Chevrolet van.

Officials arrested Davis that same evening at an abandoned house along Grady Road in Clinton and charged him with first-degree murder.

The stolen vehicle was also found there.

Davis used to work for Stewart before he was terminated about a year ago, said police.
