Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Tayler Hill scored 22 points and Ashley Adams had a double-double as Ohio State cruised to an easy 67-50 victory over Howard for its 31st consecutive home win Sunday at Value City Arena.
Hill made six of 14 attempts to surpass Amy Tucker for 10th place in scoring at the school, Adams had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Amber Stokes added 11 points. The Buckeyes improved to 10-3 after winning their fourth straight game.
Darryce Moore had eight points while freshman point guard Ameryst Alston contributed nine assists the Buckeyes.
Senior guard Saadia Doyle finished with 21 and nine rebounds but she was the only Bison in double-digit as Chey Curley-Payne and Kara Smith contributed just eight points apiece for Howard, which dropped to 5-6.
The Bison missed nine of their first 11 shots and trailed 15-5 after a Hill basket at the 12:01 mark.
Doyle, who was blanked for the first 12:37, finally got on the board with a three-point play with 7:23 left in the half.
The Buckeyes dominated the first half, shooting 15-for-24 for an outstanding 62.5 percent, to take 33-21 lead at the break.
Hill finished with 12 points, Adams had 11 while Alston issued seven of the team’s 12 assists in the first half but the Buckeyes committed 11 turnovers amid the Bison’s clamping 1-3-1 defense.
The Buckeyes made some adjustments in the second half and it worked to perfection as they committed just five turnovers the rest of the game.
The Buckeyes also displayed outstanding free throw shooting, making 19 of 24 attempts to offset a poor 33.3 percent field goal marksmanship in the second half.
The game was the final test for the Buckeyes before they start their Big Ten campaign against Iowa Jan. 3.
