Crowd panics during California mall brawl, three arrested

Sacramento, CA, United States (4E) – Three teens have been detained after a confrontation that involved a group of juveniles in a Sacramento, California shopping mall food court caused panic and prompted stores into lockdown Wednesday.

Police said the incident started with a fist fight between 20 young people at Arden Fair Mall and three teens linked to the brawl was arrested late afternoon.

Witnesses claimed even after police and mall security arrived and restrained some of them, other teens continued fighting.

Several people inside the mall told officials they thought they heard gunshots and police believed the noise could be the sounds of large signs falling over.

Mall Security Director Steve Reed claimed no gunshots were fired during or after the fight and many stores closed their metal gates when the incident began.

Nobody was injured during the incident and the mall re-opened by 6 p.m.
