Seoul, South Korea (4E) – Samsung is ready to unveil its latest electronic offering in next month’s International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) — flexible smartphone and TV screens. Attendees will be able to play around with Samsung’s display units. The flexible screens may not only appear on smartphones but may be used in television designs.
Samsung will roll out a 5.5-inch flexible screen — for future smartphone designs — featuring a 1,280×720 pixel high-def resolution. In addition to 5.5-inch screen demo units, Samsung will also display a 55-inch flexible screen.
These demo units are to be further developed by Samsung. But it’s safe to say that so far these screens can be completely bended like a credit card. But current technology doesn’t allow it to roll up like a rug yet.
“In addition to creating the material that becomes the main substance of the screen, the display company’s labs must also develop the touch panel and cover lens, both components that make a screen a screen,” CNET stated.
This isn’t the first time Samsung has displayed flexible screen demo units at the CES. The Korean-based electronics giant unveiled 4.5-inch WVGA flexible screens at the 2011 CES.
