San Francisco, CA, United States (4E) – Google Play experienced a boost in sales in the past couple of months which beat out the Apple App Store. But the Cupertino-based company has the last laugh as its app store still made the most revenue. According to mobile analytics firm Distimo, Google Play’s sales increased by 43 percent since last four months ago. Apple’s app store only rose by 21 percent during that same period.

But daily revenue sales of the Apple App Store was an estimated $15 million compared to Google Play which was just $3.5 million.

Aside from revenue and growth, Distimo also reported that the United States was the largest app market in the world this year. Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia rounded out the top four.

“The large number of apps available at both the App Store and Google Play made it more difficult for users to discover new apps, which in turn hurt developers looking to become successful,” CNET reported, according to Distimo.

Distimo also reported that some of the apps that were wildly popular during the year was Draw Something (1 million users in nine days) and Line Pop (1.75 million users in three days with more than $1 million in revenue the first two weeks).
