Santa Fe, NM, United States (4E) – A 41-year-old woman from Santa Fe, New Mexico started a high-speed pursuit with police last weekend and officers who caught her eventually, found drugs inside her car.

Officials said Antonia Alvarez failed to stop when police attempted to pull her over for a routine traffic check along St. Michael’s Drive and Cerrillos Road last Friday.

Alvarez headed into oncoming traffic, and tried to run over officers who were setting up spike strips to stop her.

When police managed to immobilize the vehicle using spike strips, Alvarez took off on foot but was caught in a nearby yard.

Police who searched the vehicle discovered heroin, cocaine and prescription drugs inside.

Alvarez also told police she has warrants for other crimes and admitted she wanted to flea because she was wanted on shoplifting charges.

She is facing charges that include aggravated fleeing, aggravated battery on a peace officer and drug charges.

Police are looking for a man riding with Alvarez, who escaped on foot when the pursuit ended.

Alvarez has a criminal record dating back to 2008 that included arrests for breaking and entering, battery, drugs and shoplifting.
