Toronto, Ontario, Canada (4E Sports) – Italian bigman Andrea Bargnani surprised his teammates, coaches and fans by calling the Toronto Raptors (5-19) ‘the worst team in the NBA,’ multiple sources reported Friday.
Bargnani’s brow raising comment was posted on Italian Newspaper La Gazzeta Dello Sports, saying the Raptors are tragic and in a desperate situation.
Bargnani is expected to sit out for three weeks after suffering a torn ligament in his elbow and a strained right wrist. The Italian fell hard following a dunk attempt in the Raps’ loss to the Portland Trail Blazers last Monday.
Averaging 16.0 points and 4.3 rebounds this season, Bargnani has been prone to injury ever since he was selected first overall in the 2006 draft.
Head coach Dwayne Casey said he’s going to have a one-on-one talk with Bargnani to clear up the issue.
Meanwhile, the Raptors salvaged a big win over the Dallas Mavericks, 95-74, Friday night at Air Canada Centre. Linas Kleiza scored 20 points and rookie guard Terrence Ross added 18 to help the Raptors snap their six-game skid.
