CCAAA, Subaru Partnership Spreads Holiday Cheer

CLEARFIELD – Wilkinson’s Subaru of Curwensville recently teamed up with the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc.’s (CCAAA) Meals on Wheels & More program to spread some holiday cheer. Wilkinson’s provided financial support to purchase Christmas cards for Meals on Wheels & More recipients and also to send to “Holiday Mail for Heroes.”

The Meals on Wheels & More drivers took Christmas cards out on routes and had the meal recipients sign cards that were then sent to the troops.  The agency collected signatures and sent a large package of Christmas cards to “Holiday Mail for Heroes,” which is organized by the American Red Cross.  According to the Red Cross Web site, each year they provide assistance to more than 2 million service members and veterans.  They deliver holiday cards to veterans, military families and active-duty service members at hospitals and installations around the world. The cards and personal messages provide a welcome “touch of home” for our troops during the holiday season.

The partnership between Wilkinson’s Subaru and the CCAAA is part of a nationwide “Share the Love” event.  During the “Share the Love” event from Nov. 21 to Jan. 2, 2013, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new vehicle sold or leased to the customer’s choice of five charities, including Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA).  With Subaru of America’s support, MOWAA will then award $200,000 in “Share the Love” grants to Meals on Wheels programs that partner with local Subaru dealerships in the fight to end senior hunger.

Over the last four years, Subaru has donated nearly $20 million to charitable organizations though the “Share the Love” sales event.  The 2012 charitable participants include: Alzheimer’s Association, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Make-A-Wish, Meals on Wheels Association of America and USO.

The CCAAA’s Meals on Wheels and More program provides in-home, nutritious, mid-day meals to eligible consumers throughout Clearfield County. On average, more than 550 meals are delivered on a daily basis.  Last year, the agency served more than 150,650 meals to more than 1,050 people throughout Clearfield County.
