West Virginia highway reopens after gas line explosion caused fire

Kanawha County, WV, United States (4E) – The southbound lanes along Interstate 77 in Kanawha County, West Virginia has been reopened Wednesday morning after a major gas line explosion that caused fire to destroy several structures in Sissonville Tuesday.

According to authorities, the explosion happened before 1 p.m. Tuesday near the Tuppers Creek exit off Interstate 77.

Officials said four homes near the area were ruined and at least five others have been damage by the flames.

Reports stated several people have been treated for smoke inhalation, but nobody was seriously injured.

The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the explosion and the resulting blaze.
