Verna E. Walker, 93, of Philipsburg died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at Windy Hill Village in Philipsburg.
She was the daughter of the late John and Pauline (Lucas) Belko born Sept. 28, 1919 in Clarence. She married Charles C. Walker on Sept. 18, 1944 at the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg. He preceded her in death Feb. 9, 2011.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg, where she was also a member of the Alter and Rosary Society. She was also formerly a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Louis, #723, Philipsburg.
She had previously been employed with the Philipsburg State General Hospital and the Philipsburg Country Club. She was also a homemaker and mother. She was a 1938 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by four brothers, John, George and Edward Belko and an infant brother.
She is survived by two sons, John F. Walker Sr., and his wife, Janice and Charles W. Walker and his wife, Susan, all of Philipsburg; four sisters, Pauline Belko of Buffalo, NY; Mary Shedlock and Betty Sicks and her husband, William, al of Philipsburg; and Marge Lewis and her husband, Ken of Maryville, TN; four brothers, Andrew Belko and his wife, Lois; Robert Belko and his wife, Barb; William Belko and his wife, Melissa, all of Philipsburg and David Belko and his wife Stephanie of Wexford; three grandchildren, John F. Walker Jr. and his wife Denise of Sussex, WI; Timothy A. Walker and his wife, Gina of Pittsburgh; and Bethany Shaw and her husband, Edward of Philipsburg; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Owen Walker, both of Sussex, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg, with the Rev. Robert J. Kelly officiating. Burial will be at the Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Philipsburg.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg.
The rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
