Minnesota man shoots granddaughter mistaken as intruder

Rochester, MN, United States (4E) – A 16-year-old girl was seriously hurt late Monday night after her grandfather shot her when she was mistaken as a burglar in his home in Rochester, Minnesota.

According to officials, the 61-year-old man informed police that after he and his wife were awakened by a noise outside around 11 p.m., he grabbed his handgun and told his wife to call police.

Police said when the man saw someone at the back door, he fired two shots. One bullet hit the teen in her upper body.

The granddaughter, who had been living with the couple, was brought to the hospital in critical condition.
