Bodies identified as missing Iowa girls

Evansdale, IA, United States (4E) – Authorities confirmed Monday that the bodies discovered by hunters in a wooded area in Bremer County, Iowa last week belong to the missing 10-year-old Lyric Cook and her cousin, 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins.

Chief Kent Smock of the Evansdale, Iowa, Police Department, said the bodies were found in the Seven Bridges Wildlife Area, however, the cause of death is yet to be determined.

In a statement, the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the families of the girls had been notified.

Both girls were last seen July 13 by their grandmother before they went for a bike ride.

The girls’ bicycles and a purse belonging to Elizabeth have been found near Meyers Lake in Evansdale, hours after they disappeared.

Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson, in a statement, said “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those precious girls.”

He added that they will remain vigilant in “our pursuit of those responsible and will extend every resource to concluding this case so that justice may prevail.”
