London, England, United Kingdom (4E Sports) – Mikel Arteta struck twice from the penalty spot to lead Arsenal over West Brom, 2-0, at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners took the lead through controversial fashion, after Cazorla flung himself to the floor following a challenge by Steven Reid.
They were awarded a penalty and Arteta stepped up to drill the ball past Myhill. Replays showed there was no contact.
This created a sense of injustice for West Brom, who soon went in search of swift recompense.
At 64 minutes, Arsenal was awarded another penalty as West Brom’s Chris Brunt chopped down Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the latter had charged down the right.
Arteta took it again and blasted the spot-kick down the middle. With a two-goal cushion, Arsenal produced slick, passing football.
Southampton moved out of the Premier League relegation zone for the first time this season with a 1-0 winover Reading.
Jason Puncheon lashed home what proved to be the winner in the 61st minute.
