Detroit, MI, United States (4E Sports) – The Olympia Development Company of Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch has presented Michigan lawmakers a plan for a new $650 million arena in downtown Detroit.

The project would also include some commercial and residential angles, with the arena being the centerpiece.

According to the Detroit Free-Press, it is being hailed as a “new, state of the art, multi-purpose events center.”

While it has not been mentioned as the future home of the Red Wings, the Free-Press noted it would most likely be part of the picture. Ilitch has been trying for a while to get a new arena downtown for the Wings to play in.

Ilitch has experience in getting new arenas built for the city’s teams having helped his Detroit Tigers acquire one over a decade ago.

The Red Wings are ensuring the team doesn’t migrate to Auburn Hills as part of an arena deal like the NBA’s Pistons did.
