Lanham, MD, United States (4E) – A fire forced the evacuation of an elementary school in Lanham, Maryland Monday morning, and reports stated all students and staff are all accounted for.

Officials said the fire occurred at Gaywood Elementary School, along 97th Avenue around 9:30 a.m. in the ceiling and roof above the boiler room.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire 20 minutes later and the section of the roof, where the fire broke out, had to be removed.

No students or teachers were hurt.

School officials announced the school will remain shut down for the rest of the day and Gaywood students will be transported to nearby DuVal High School.
