Durham, NC, United States (4E Sports) – Junior guard Tricia Liston bounced back from two sub-par performances, firing 22 points to lead three other starters in double digits as No. 4 Duke defeated No. 10 Cal, 77-63, Sunday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
After hitting an average of 16.7 points in Duke’s first three games, Liston saw her performance dipped in the last two outings, submitting just 7.5 points per game.
Liston made up for it, making nine of 16 shots and added eight rebounds to help the Blue Devils improve to 6-0 and hand the Golden Bears their first loss in seven outings.
The Blue Devils also improved their all-time series record against the Golden Bears to 3-0.
The 6-1 guard also hit two three-pointers, extending her streak to 12 straight games with at least one three-pointer, the longest streak since Georgia Schweitzer hit treys in 25 straight outings in 2000-01.
Chelsea Gray added 13 points, Elizabeth Williams had 12 and Alexis Jones 11 for the Blue Devils, who improved to 24-2 at home against ranked opponents over the last four years.
The Blue Devils won despite hitting a season-low 46.9 percent from the field, making up for it by forcing 22 turnovers and turning it to 26 points. Duke also had a 40-28 advantage in points in the shaded area.
Brittany Boyd scored 28 while Layshia Clarendon added 13 for the Golden Bears, who shot a dismal 36 percent from the field.
Liston scored 12 points in the first half to give Duke a 34-20 lead at the break but the Golden Bears cut the deficit to 10 early in the second half.
However, Gray spearheaded a 9-0 blast to give the Blue Devils their biggest lead at 19, with 15 minutes left in the game.
