New York, NY, United States (4E) – Artist-activist Yoko Ono has launched her new fashion line in collaboration with Opening Ceremony clothing line Tuesday in New York City.
Inspired by her late husband John Lennon, Ono’s new fashion line features designs that she first sketched, out of her love for Lennon, 43 years ago. The ‘wearable art’ pieces range from see-through tops, suits, hoodies, and trousers that have handprint designs on the crotch and a seemingly bare bottom on the back.
The collection, called ‘Fashions for Men: 1969-2012′ celebrates the body parts of the late Beatle that Ono favored the most. Regarding these parts, Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony said, “they are elements that people could be shier about, but I feel like that’s kind of the beauty of it. It’s very bold, it’s trying to show the things that are slightly more intimate, some more than others.”
With prices ranging from $145 to over $500, the 18-drawing collection only produced 52 pieces of each design. Leon said, though, that they are not closing their doors into producing more in the future, saying, “…I think we only wanted to touch upon a bit this time. There could be more, it could be different. But we had so much fun working on this together that we definitely want to explore what else we can do.”
