Urbandale, IA, United States (4E) – Powerball officials announced early Thursday morning that two winning tickets have been purchased that would split the $579.9 million lottery jackpot.

Organizers said it is the second biggest prize in US history and it would go to two winners who bought their tickets in Missouri and Arizona.

The numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 5, 23, 16, 22, 29 and 6.

Sales in many of the 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, have increased significantly since the jackpot reached more than $500 million after 16 consecutive draws ended without a winning ticket.
