Bartow, FL, United States (4E) – A 31-year-old woman who was wearing only her pants when she escaped from a deputy’s custody in Bartow, Florida Wednesday morning has been captured a few hours later.
According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office official, Vinzena Wardell, who managed to flee after pretending to be sick just before getting booked into jail, was found at the Public Works department where she went hiding.
Authorities went to Wardell’s home last Tuesday night to serve a warrant for Failure to Appear. She is facing multiple charges that included Grand Theft, Scheming to Defraud, and Exploitation of the Elderly.
Reports said Wardell resisted arrest and deputies used a stun gun for her to obey.
After she was brought to a hospital to be medically cleared, a deputy transported her to jail where Wardell acted as if she was about to throw up upon arrival. She succeeded in opening the vehicle’s door and fled while in handcuffs.
The deputy attempted to chase the suspect but she quickly escaped.
Officials searched for her and she was discovered hiding several hours later at the Public Works Department.
She is now facing additional charges of Resisting Arrest, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Escape.
