La Mesa, CA, United States (4E) – Authorities arrested four men early Wednesday morning after an automated teller machine smash-and-grab attempt in La Mesa, California.

According to officials, the suspects used a tow truck to extract the ATM from its concrete base at a Chase Bank drive-thru along Grossmont Center Drive and Murray Drive around 3 a.m.

FOX 5 reported that police radio traffic stated that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have been observing the incident from a nearby shopping center.

Unmarked police cars surrounded the robbers after they loaded the machine onto the tow truck.

Officials said three people were detained at the scene, while a fourth suspect who fled, was later caught inside a nearby parking garage.

Anyone with information about this attempted theft is urged to contact the FBI at 858 565-1255.
