Long Island, NY, United States (4E) – A six-year-old boy died and 13 others were injured, including his seven-year-old brother, after a bus slammed into a home in Long Island, New York Tuesday night.
Hempstead Police Sergeant Mark Kirichenko said both boys were inside the house when the crash happened and the younger boy, identified as David Granados, “was just in a bad spot.”
Reports stated eleven people on the bus and a pedestrian were also hurt. The pedestrian was taken to the Nassau University Medical Center in critical condition.
Officials said at 9:30 p.m., the driver of a Nassau Inter County Express bus swerved and crashed in an attempt to evade hitting a pedestrian, who crossed against the light despite repeated honking by the driver.
Granados died shortly at the Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola. His older brother is being treated at the same hospital with minor injuries.
Police said at least 20 passengers were on the bus during the crash.
A bus company spokesman said “NICE is cooperating with police officials, and has its own team investigating the incident.”
