Pilot killed in Texas plane crash
Cherokee County, TX, United States (4E) – A 64-year-old pilot from Oklahoma was killed Monday night after his plane crashed in Cherokee County, Texas.
According to the Department of Public Safety officials, John Thomas Steeper from Broken Bow, died on impact after he lost control of the Cessna 421 due to bad weather.
Steeper left Houston airport and was heading to Tulsa when the plane went down in a wooded area at 9:22 p.m. near Wells on Cheeseland Road in southern Cherokee County.
DPS crash reported that the Cessna, which exploded on impact, “was flying at an altitude of 24,000 feet when Steeper lost control, falling at a rate of 15,000 feet per minute. “
The Federal Aviation Administration started the investigation of the incident Tuesday.
