Man fatally shot in standoff with Ohio deputies

Marion County, OH, United States (4E) – A 40-year-old man was shot and killed by a deputy Sunday night after a standoff in a Marion County, Ohio neighborhood.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Byron Holveck died after being shot outside a home at the Pleasant Acres Mobile Home Park around 10 p.m.

Officers, who arrived at the mobile home area on Smeltzer Road after receiving reports of a man carrying a gun, asked Holveck to drop his gun which he declined to do, before gunfire erupted.

He died of a gunshot wound in the lower body shortly after being brought at the Grant Medical Center.

Holveck, who was fighting with his girlfriend, had fired his gun into the air and allegedly threatened to kill a neighbor who saw the incident.

Investigators revealed that Holveck also discharged multiple guns several times, inside and outside, the residence.

The deputies involved were not identified.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the case.
