Grand Rapids, MI, United States (4E) – A hostage situation was terminated Friday inside a home in Grand Rapids, Michigan after a woman and a man were brought out in handcuffs and placed into police cruisers on stand-by at the scene.
According to authorities, police arrived at the residence along Garfield Avenue in the northwest side around 5:30 a.m. after getting calls from other people in the home, who was able to flee, and inform them about a knife-wielding man holding his girlfriend against her will.
Police shut down the area after more than a dozen cruisers arrived on the scene and established a mobile command center. They also went door-to-door, notifying the neighbors about the incident and used a bullhorn to communicate with the suspect.
When the energy provider cut the power to the house at 8:50 a.m., officers entered the residence and took the woman outside, the man was removed after 9 a.m.
The woman’s cousin told 24 Hour News 8 that the woman was not hurt and that the couple, who broke up Thursday, had been dating for about a year.
