Texas multi-vehicle wreck shuts down highway near Beaumont

Beaumont, TX, United States (4E) – An accident involving multiple vehicles that happened on Interstate 10 near Beaumont, Texas has closed the freeway in both directions and travelers have been warned to avoid the area.

According to the Department of Public Safety officials, there were around 50 vehicles in the collision that occurred about 9 a.m. and believe that heavy fog in the vicinity contributed to the crash.

Police said paramedics in Jefferson County responded to the scene to transport the wounded to hospitals.

Both directions of the highway between Taylor’s Bayou and Hampshire Road were shut down and officials are still uncertain when it would be reopened.

Jefferson County is located about 70 miles east of Houston along Interstate 10.
