Entebbe, Uganda (4E Sports) – Uganda reaffirmed its status as the region’s beach volleyball powerhouse, dominating the 7th edition of the Club International Beach Volleyball Championship Sunday at Lido Beach Resort.

In the men’s final, Uganda’s pair of Dickens Otim Ambrose Okello won a historic third straight international championship after beating Burundi’s Briand Mugabowingabo and Yvan Dukudane, 19-21, 21-16, 15-11.

The Burundi pair, also the Africa’s 2012 continental junior champions, easily bagged the first set with composed tactical play but the Ugandans regained their composure and forced the tiebreaker, before eventually winning the third set for the gold medal.

The two-day event attracted teams from Burundi, Kenya and debutant Zanzibar as well as hosts Uganda.

Sadik Nasiwu, President of the Uganda Volleyball Federation, praised all the players for their good performance and outstanding display of sportsmanship.

The visiting countries pledged to emulate Uganda’s initiative of promoting beach volleyball to the youth.

The next edition of the Club International Beach Volleyball Championships is slated for November 16 and 17, 2013.
