Jessie Marie Mitchell-Centra, 88, of Clearfield died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012. She was born July 18, 1924 in Shiloh, a daughter of the late Jesse Graffius.
Mrs. Mitchell-Centra was a homemaker. She’d also been employed at McGregor’s Sportswear as a seamstress. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and sewing. The focus of her life was her family, whom she cherished.
She attended Hyde Wesleyan Church and was previously a member of the Clearfield Presbyterian Church and the former Pine Grove Bethel Presbyterian Church. She will be remembered for her overt care of others and being very self-sacrificing by always putting others first.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph L. Centra, whom she wed May 25, 1996 in Clearfield and two daughters, Gail Mitchell-Black and her husband, Steve Black of Clearfield and Sherry Stanton and her husband, Dr. Allan of Conneaut Lake.
Surviving are five grandchildren, Stefani Campbell of Coopersburg; Cristen Urich and her husband, Michael of Elliottsburg; Heather Molly Clark of New York City, NY; Jeffrey Stanton and his wife, Marcy of Russell; and Dr. Rebecca Stanton of Conneaut Lake; and nine great-grandchildren Devon, Joseph, Patrick, Aidan, Maura and Mitchell Campbell and Jesse, Madison and Savannah Urich.
Also surviving are four step-children, Marcel Centra and his wife, Janice of Frederick, MD; Linda Maines and her husband, Dave of Clearfield; Mark Centra and his wife, Mary Ann of Centerville, VA; and Dino Centra and his wife Cathy of Alexandria, VA; six step-grandchildren Robert Davis of Clearfield; Jolene Maines and her husband, Tom of Seattle, WA; Marcus Centra of Prince County, MD; Michael Centra of Centerville, VA; and Zachary Centra and Cristen Centra, both of Alexandria, VA; and a step-great granddaughter, Gabriella Snyder.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by first her husband, John William Mitchell on Feb. 5, 1989; her in-laws, William E. and Annie M. Mitchell; her grandmother, Ida Graffius, who reared her; and a brother, Millard E. Graffius.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. Robert Croft and the Rev. John Croft co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
