Burlington, WI, United States (4E) – A 50-year-old man and his 14-year-old daughter died after a small plane crashed while attempting to land in Wisconsin Sunday.
According to officials, Todd Parfitt and his daughter Nicole were aboard the single-engine Grumman AA1 when it slammed nose-first on a field just short of the runway at the Burlington Airport at about 1:30 p.m.
Both victims were thrown from the plane on impact.
Authorities are investigating who was piloting the craft when the incident happened.
The cause of the crash is also under investigation.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswomen Lynn Lunsford said there is no control tower in Burlington airport and the pilot made no attempt to contact air traffic controllers when the plane went down.
A father of two, Parfitt was a former Army pilot with years of experience. Nicole, a freshman at Antioch High School, was a dancer who performed with the school’s cheer squad and varsity dance team. The family is from Antioch, California.
