Las Vegas, NV, United States (4E Sports) – Mike Moser bounced back from a disappointing two-point performance, tallying 19 points and 10 boards to carry No. 18 UNLV to a 77-58 triumph over Jacksonville State Saturday at Thomas and Mack Center.
Moser shot 6-for-12 from the field and had four assists while reserve Justin Hawkins added 16 points off the bench for the Rebels (2-0).
Anthony Bennett contributed 12 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks while Katin Reinhardt and Anthony Marshall scored 11 points apiece for the Rebels, who dominated almost every facet of the game.
The Rebels asserted their rebounding might, grabbing 41 caroms compared to the Gamecocks’ 24. They also displayed better teamwork with 17 dimes compared to just eight by Jacksonville State.
The Rebels also enjoyed better field goal shooting, making 24 of 51 shot for 47.1 percent while the Gamecocks made 21 of 54 attempts for 38.9 percent.
Ronnie Boggs scored 16 points and grabbed nine boards and Darion Rackley had nine markers as Jacksonville State tasted their first loss in four games.
Moser poured 12 of his output while Hawkins scored in the first half as the Rebels stormed to an early 23-12 advantage.
The Rebels later launched a 9-2 blast anchored on Moser’s five points to extend their lead to 32-14 at the break.
UNLV made 11 of 27 shots while Jacksonville State buried just five of 23 attempts in the first half for a 21.7 percent clip.
The Rebels extended their lead to 36-16 from two foul shots and a layup by Bennett but the Gamecocks cut the deficit to 11, with less than six minutes left in the game.
The Rebels then retaliated with a 10-1 run to pull away from the Gamecocks.
