Halifax County, VA, United States (4E) – A man and woman in Virginia are expected to be charged with child abduction after declining to surrender custody of their 1-year-old daughter Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said 35-year-old Jennifer Dawn Carwile and 41-year-old Eric Eugene Black were scheduled to meet with child protective service workers in Halifax County to hand over Alexis Rose Carwile.

The couple allegedly abducted the girl around 4:30 p.m. Thursday from a relative’s home in Lower Liberty Road in Halifax.

Police issued an Amber Alert, believing them to be heading for the Washington, D.C. area.

The search ended safely early Friday morning in the Richmond area when Black was discovered in Chesterfield, Virginia with the vehicle that was reportedly used in the abduction.

A short time later, Carwile was found in Prince George, Virginia with an unharmed Alexis Rose.

Police arrested the couple who are both facing abduction charges.

The reason why the girl was placed in protective custody was not released.
