San Francisco, CA, United States (4E Sports) – San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh underwent a minor procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat Thursday but is expected to return Friday as the team prepares for its Monday showdown with the Chicago Bears.
“Coach Harbaugh is not at the facility today under doctor’s orders. He is having a minor procedure done at Stanford Hospital today for an irregular heartbeat,” the team said in a statement.
“We anticipate that he will be back at the facility tomorrow, but do not have any further information to share at this time,” the statement added.
The 49ers said assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Brad Seely will oversee today’s practice and meetings.
According to reports, the 48-year-old Harbaugh began feeling ill Wednesday evening and went to Stanford Hospital, which is near his home and which is affiliated with the 49ers.
Leading the NFC West with a 6-2-1 record, the 49ers clash with the Chicago Bears, who top the NFC North with a 7-2 mark. However, it was unclear whether Harbaugh will be on the sidelines during that encounter.
