Knicks continue fast start as test with Spurs awaits
New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – The New York Knicks are alone at the top of the NBA and look like they will be a force in the Eastern Conference this season, especially if they keep things up defensively.
The Knicks remained the only unbeaten team in the NBA with a 99-89 triumph over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night.
The Knicks (5-0) are off to their best start since 1993, when they won their first seven games. They remained perfect Tuesday with balanced offense and a strong effort on defense in the fourth quarter.
Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points to lead the Knicks while Raymond Felton and J.R. Smith each added 21.
The game came down to the final 12 minutes and the Knicks were at their best. They limited the Magic to just 13 points in the fourth quarter and forced seven turnovers.
The Knicks entered Tuesday’s matchup as the stingiest team in the league, allowing the fewest points (87.5 points per game) while averaging the most steals (10.25 per game).
New York is undoubtedly off to a great start but they will be tested over the next couple weeks. The Knick play Thursday night in San Antonio, where they have lost nine consecutive games. A Friday night visit to Memphis will be a challenge and overall the Knicks play six of seven on the road strating with the win in Orlando.
