Kansas City, MO, United States (4E) – The body of a 21-year-old mother who disappeared Sunday has been discovered in wooded area in Missouri Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, Essence S. Willoughby’s body was located around 2 p.m. Tuesday along 38th Street and Topping Avenue by a group of people searching for her.

Authorities said that a body of a woman matching the description of Willoughby has been found, but they want to confirm everything before releasing the identity.

“Based upon what she was wearing, we believe it is her,” added Officer Darin Snapp.

Willoughby was last seen Sunday by family members leaving her home in Wayne Avenue.

Family members told police that the young mother left for church with her two children, aged 1 and 3, and the children’s 42-year-old father. The children were later dropped off at a neighbor’s house by a relative of their father.

Police expressed concern about the woman’s safety after talking to the woman’s 3-year-old.

No details have been released about the toddler’s interview with authorities.

The children’s father, who has been detained on an unrelated case last Monday, is being questioned by police. He has a domestic violence history.

Jesse Frazier, the victim’s grandfather, said that he talked to Willoughby Friday and she voiced some concerns about the father of her children.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
