Sao Paulo, Brazil (4E Sports) – Brazilian soccer legend Pele could return home Wednesday after undergoing successful hip surgery in Sao Paulo, according to his adviser.

“Everything went very well. It was a very simple surgery. He will probably be discharged tomorrow,” Jose Ovens told Globo Esporte.

A spokesperson for Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paolo confirmed he was hospitalized Tuesday, but added that no further details were offered as requested by his family.

The Folha de Sao Paolo newspaper reported that the soccer legend underwent an operation on his hip to correct a problem with his femur and was recovering at Albert Einstein hospital.

The 72-year-old Pele won three World Cup titles with Brazil and scored nearly 1,300 career goals.

Upon recovery, Pele is expected to be back on his feet and promote the 2014 FIFA World Cup in his home country.
