East Branch Road Bridge Will Open this Week

Once bridge is open, detour will be lifted

STATE COLLEGE – PennDOT will open the new East Branch Road Bridge this week. The bridge spans Slab Cabin Run on Route 3011, East Branch Road, near Lemont.

PennDOT expects to open the bridge before Thursday, Nov. 15. The day and time of the bridge opening is dependent on weather and work schedules. Once the bridge is open to traffic, PennDOT will remove the detour that’s been in place since early June.

At the time of replacement, the original bridge was more than 70 years old. Replacing the bridge gives area drivers smoother, safer and more efficient travel across a modern structure. The replacement also allows PennDOT to remove the bridge from its list of deficient structures in Centre County. An average of 9,400 vehicles will cross the bridge each day.

Overall work included bridge replacement, construction and paving of bridge approaches and roadway, pipe installation, guide rail installation, and miscellaneous items. Although the bridge will be open to traffic, crews will be working through November to complete non-roadway items.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College has been the contractor on this $1.5 million project. PennDOT thanks area residents and drivers for their patience during this roadway and bridge closure.
