Columbia, SC, United States (4E Sports) – Junior quarterback Connor Shaw covered 272 yards on 14-for-22 passing with two TDs as the South Carolina Gamecocks dominated Arkansas Razorbacks, 38-20, Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.
No. 8 South Carolina captured a second straight win and improved its season slate to 8-2 as Shaw provided the offensive punch his team needed to get by their SEC rival.
Shaw posted strong numbers from the pocket but it was his tie-breaking 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that changed the complexion of the match.
South Carolina came out even more aggressive in the second half, turning an 11-point halftime lead to a 31-10 spread behind a field goal by Adam Yates and a TD interception return by D.J. Swearinger.
Mike Davis scored another rushing TD just before the end of the third quarter to give South Carolina a 38-13 cushion.
South Carolina’s defense stepped up big time in the fourth quarter, foiling almost every offensive play from the Razorbacks before conceding a 9-yard TD pass from Tyler Wilson with 39 seconds left.
Wilson completed 21 of his 41 passes for 277 yards with two TDs and two interceptions in a losing effort for the Razorbacks.
