Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Indiana Hooisers seven-foot, sophomore forward Cody Zeller leads the list for the Wooden Award.
Zeller averaged 15.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 62 percent from the field last season.
He is one of nine representatives from the Big Ten. Zeller was also named a preseason All-American last week.
According to scouts, Zeller could have been an NBA lottery draft pick last season had he decided to enter the 2012 draft. Trailing Zeller at the top of the list is fellow preseason All-Americans Doug McDermott of Creighton, who led the Bluejays to a 29-6 record.
C.J. McCollum of Lehigh and Isaiah Canaan of Murray State are also aong the top candidates. Louisville Cardinals has the most number of players on the award’s preseason watch list with three, namely: Gorgui Dieng, Chane Behanan and Peyton Siva.
The list are for the top 50 players in college basketball excluding freshman and transfer students, who become once the season begins.
Former Kentucky star Anthony Davis won the honor last season as a freshman.
