Winterville, NC, United States (4E) – A North Carolina man has been perched 30 feet above Fire Tower Road in Greenville since Thursday because he wanted to help people in need.

Austin Pendergraft from Winterville was lifted on a scissor lift located in front of the Boys and Girls Club Thursday where he plans to stay until he reached his goal of 300 turkeys and 300 blankets for charity.

Pendergraft has reportedly collected half of his donation early Friday afternoon.

Calling his scheme, Operation High Hope 2012, the donation drive is a bit radical but it is attention grabbing. He said he is ready to stay up there for 48-72 hours.

The turkeys and blankets will go to God’s Love Ministries, who will in turn donate them to needy families in Pitt County.

Pendergraft said to think about every Thanksgiving or Christmas when “we sit around the table with our friends and family and a hot meal, and there are plenty of people without the opportunity, who do not have that privilege.”

A local Chick-fil-A restaurant is giving Pendergraft a hot soup while a sandwich coupon will be received by people who donated. Sunbelt provided the scissor lift and Midas of Greenville prepared coolers to keep the turkeys in.
