Boston, MA, United States (4E Sports) – The Boston Red Sox have officially introduced Juan Nieves as their next pitching coach on Wednesday.

The Red Sox picked Nieves over longtime pitching coach Rick Peterson, Miami Marlins pitching coach Randy St. Claire, Kansas City Royals bullpen coach Steve Foster.

According to a league insider, Red Sox manager John Farrell was also strongly considering Peterson but Nieves’ communication skills really impressed the skipper.

“All four candidates that we sat and met with were strong candidates, but we felt with the ease of conversations with Juan, also looking at the pitchers he has helped in his time with the White Sox, there were a number of factors,” Farrell told ESPN.

Nieves is a former major league hurler, spending three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Nieves, who spent five seasons as pitching coach for the Chicago White Sox, reportedly developed a longstanding rapport with Ferrell.
