Sharon Osbourne undergoes double mastectomy
London, United Kingdom (4E) – An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. For some, like Sharon Osbourne, ‘double’ prevention is better than rounds of possible cancer therapy.
In a recent interview with Hello! Magazine, the one-time colon cancer survivor has revealed that she has undergone double mastectomy over the summer upon discovery that she had the breast cancer gene.
“As soon as I found out I had the breast cancer gene, I thought, ‘The odds are not in my favor,’” the 60-year-old talk show host said.
Having known how it is to live with cancer, she said, “I decided to just take everything off.”
The Osbourne matriarch may have lost her ‘girls,’ but there is no room for regret and pity, as she said, “For me, it wasn’t a big decision. It was a no-brainer. I didn’t want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me. I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl.”
Pearl is her first grandchild from her son Jack, with wife Lisa Stelly.
Osbourne’s health complications started when she discovered that her breast implants have leaked. Instead of having them reconstructed, she chose to have them removed altogether.
“I didn’t even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way, I just wanted to be able to live my life without that fear all the time,” she added.
