Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Los Angeles Lakers Steve Nash is nursing a lower left leg contusion after colliding with rookie guard Damian Lillard in Wednesday night’s 116-106 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.
According to Lakers head coach Mike Brown, the 38-year-old Nash will be re-evaluated to see if he’s ready for Friday’s battle of Los Angeles showdown against the Clippers.
Nash won’t disclose his status but his hopeful that he can play for the much-hyped game against another Western Conference contender.
“I guess I wouldn’t want to say right now (whether he will play) but I’m definitely hopeful,” Nash told reporters, according to ESPN.
Nash suffered the injury in the winding minutes of the second quarter. The two-time NBA MVP tried to shake the injury off but his movement clearly indicates a problem. Steve Blake played point guard through the remainder of the match.
“It was sore but I went out to try and play and then I planted on it and it just kind of gave out on me,” Nash told ESPN. “It was sore and functionally I couldn’t plant on it, or push off on it, or accelerate.”
Nash has been subpar through his first two games with the Lakers, averaging just 4.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds.
